NAZCA II

NAZCA II is a Doug Petersen designed yacht built by Contessa Yachts in 1984, and was a part of a 90 strong fleet of one design offshore yachts. The hull is injection moulded and the whole build standard is to Jeremy Rodgers high quality. in 1984 she originally cost over £50,000

She has the Mk2 coach roof which has an improved  design giving more headroom below and a better designed cockpit with a separate gas locker and twin stern lazerettes.  Following the demise of Contessa at the end of the 80's the remaining completed hulls were made into Contessa 34's but with a smaller rig and different keel configuration.

She was custom fitted to the first owners specification with the cabin being fitted out to a more comfortable layout than most of the earlier models.  The original owner mainly raced her in the Solent and channel and achived many wins in the class fleet racing .

Nazca is a superb sea boat and has safely taken us through gales of up to Severe  Gale 9 over many thousands of miles

I purchased Nazca  in 2000 as the 2nd owner and participated in offshore RORC and EAORA racing over the next 7 years, major races entered included the 2001 & 2003 Fastnet ( plus qualifying races ), Cowes Week, Round the Island additionally in 2001 we entered every RORC South and East coast race that season with the exception of the very last race of the year .  Most of these were raced fully crewed with up to the maximum nine crew allowed under IRC

Nazca's original sail handling layout required a larger crew than was always available , plus the fleet was dispersed so that class racing no longer was available so I changed the sail handling adding roller furling , bringing all the halyards back to the cockpit and adding a Scanmar Monitor self steering  for 2 handed racing and light handed cruising

Since then she has been raced in the 2008 Fastnet, 2011 Azores & Back ( AZAB ) plus four of the YM Triangle races  ( Torquay - Kinsale - Treguir - Torquay ) as well as qualifying races and delivery trips,   extended cruises have included a trip round the UK ( via the Caledonia canal in 2017, cruises to Denmark - Holland amongt many others

She is fitted out to ORC Category 2 specifications and has been maintained to the highest possible standard by myself over this period.

Reason for selling is solely due to my pending retirement and planning to invest in a larger yacht for a circumnavigation
